Welcome to the Blue River Alpacas Web Site

Wendell Brown has been in the livestock business for over 50 years here in Salem, Indiana, but has never raised an animal more precious than the alpaca. Alpacas are gentle creatures with luxurious fleece that is lighter, warmer, softer, and more durable than sheep's wool. They are easy to raise, inexpensive to keep, and a joy to be near. To find out more about alpacas, including how they sound, please visit The Alpaca page.

Please join us on September 25th between noon and 3:00 PM or September 26th between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM for a fourth annual nationwide event, National Alpaca Farm Day. This is a great opportunity to learn about alpacas. Our farm will be open to the public during this time. Please visit our Alpaca Farm Day page for more details. We hope to see you here!

Blue River Alpacas came into existence in 2000 here in Southern Indiana, about a year after Wendell, a farmer, accountant, pilot, and assistant editor, married Trina, a developmental editor, licensed massage therapist, and dabbler in Web site design and multimedia creation. Find out more about us, our farm, and how we got started in the alpaca business on the About Us page. In addition to selling alpacas and alpaca products, we also offer farm consulting, alpaca breeding and boarding.

To read about the latest happenings at Blue River Alpacas and in the alpaca community, please visit the News and Links page. We've recently opened an alpaca store and sell both alpaca clothing and alpaca yarn.

Our farm celebrated one cria arrival in 2008, a girl., two crias in 2009, both boys, and two crias in 2010, again both boys. Our herd is growing in both number and colors. Please visit the Our Alpacas page to find out more about all these beautiful animals, including our alpacas for sale. They're all adorable!

The best way to experience the alpaca lifestyle is to meet one of these fine animals. We and our alpacas love visitors. Contact us today to schedule a visit!
